The real name of Neem Karauli Baba was Lakshmi Narayan Sharma. Laxmi Narayan Sharma was born in 1902 in Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh. At the age of 17, the child Lakshmi Narayan attained the attainment of supernatural knowledge. His father’s name was Durgaprasad Sharma. Durga Prasad got his son Lakshmi Narayan married at the age of 11. He also has two sons and a daughter. His elder son Anek Sharma lives in Bhopal these days with his entire family. His younger son Dharam Narayan Sharma was a government official in the Forest Department in Uttar Pradesh. He has passed away due to prolonged illness. Neem Karauli Baba died (left the body) on 11 September 1973 in Vrindavan.

How did Neem Karauli get its name?

How did this Baba get the name Neem Karauli? This is an interesting phenomenon. It is said that in 1958 Baba left his home and became a monk. Being a monk, he wandered across the country. During this wandering, sometimes his name was Laxmandas, sometimes Handiwale Baba and sometimes Tikonia Wale Baba. He also did penance for a few days in Morbi of Gujarat state. Here he was known as Talaiyawale Baba. It is said that once Baba was traveling in the first class of the train. He didn’t have a ticket. When the ticket checker came, Baba said that I do not have the ticket nor any money to pay the fine.

On the complaint of the ticket checker, the railway administration forcibly dropped Baba at a station called Neem Karauli. It is said that Baba sat down with his tongs nearby. When an attempt was made to start the train after Baba was dropped, the train could not move even an inch. After making all technical efforts, when the train did not run, then the high officials of the nearby railways reached the spot. It is said that the local magistrate there was known to Baba. He and other railway officials apologized to Baba and respectfully made him sit in the train. It is claimed that the train started moving as soon as Baba sat on it.
